Don Guillermo Gernon, on requesting to marry Doña Isabel MacEnery, St. Augustine, December 17, 1788

Title

Don Guillermo Gernon, on requesting to marry Doña Isabel MacEnery, St. Augustine, December 17, 1788

Description

Irishman Guillermo (William) Gernon requests a license to marry Isabel MacEnery, also Irish. The bride's father, William MacEnery, grants his permission, and Gernon presents three Irish witnesses: Michael O'Reilly, Thomas Travers, and Bernard O'Callaghan. Each witness affirms that Gernon is Catholic and has no parents or relatives in Florida who can give the consent required by the 1776 Real Pragmática de Casamientos, a royal degree regulating marriage.

This is a translation of Don Guillermo Gernon sobre impetrar matrimonio con doña Isabel MacEnery, San Augstín, 17 de diciembre de 1788.
