In the summer of 2019, Mariana Mendieta (International Studies/Spanish) participated in SPN3860 Digital Textual Editing in Spanish, as part of the study abroad program co-led by Dr. Clayton McCarl and Dr. Constanza López in Colombia. In this course, she participated in the transcription and editing of a legal case involving slavery and alleged witchcraft from 1713 that forms part of the Antioquia Negra Digital Archive. The following fall, Mariana continued her work on that document in the context of an internship undertaken for academic credit, under the supervision of Dr. McCarl. She presented on her work at the 2019 Digital Projects Showcase hosted by the UNF Digital Humanities Initiative, as well as at the 2019 UNF International Research Symposium.
