In the spring of 2015, Kalthoum Elfasi (Spanish, 2015) was one of the first two students to work on the transcription and encoding of the Compendio histórico (1799), as part of a directed independent study led by Dr. Clayton McCarl. Kalthoum and fellow collaborator Buddy Delegal presented with Dr. McCarl on this project at the UNF Scholars Transforming Academic Research Symposium (STARS) in April 2015. In the summer of 2015, Kalthoum worked on the transcription and encoding of materials related to the project Carlos Enriques Clerque and the Narborough Expedition (1669–1671) to Chile: A Critical Edition of Essential Documents. Kalthoum presented on this work at THATCamp Gainesville in the spring of 2016. Kalthoum subsequently a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at the University of Florida in 2018.
